Alberta ALS Research Network Announces Fund Matching Awards

The Alberta ALS Research Network (AARN) is proud to announce an open call to support fund-matching awards.

About the Alberta ALS Research Network (AARN)
The Alberta ALS Research Network is committed to advancing research and improving care for amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). Through strategic investment in fundamental, translational and clinical research, AARN aims to position Alberta-based ALS researchers as global leaders by fostering innovation and collaboration to accelerate discoveries and enhance patient outcomes.

Award Overview
The AARN Fund Matching Awards will support ALS researchers applying for large-scale grants that require matching funds.

Application Steps
1. Contact AARN Project Manager to discuss funding needs and project.
2. Submit an application to AARN, including:

  • Up to 2-page summary of the project

  • Up to 0.5 page summary of applicant qualifications

  • Application package for intended grant

  • Send your application to kelsie@alsab.ca

Value
Total value and number of awards will be determined based on AARN budget, quality of applications, and alignment with AARN mission.

Eligibility Criteria
1. Research must be relevant to the field of ALS.
2. Applicant must be based at an Alberta university with an academic appointment that allows them to hold external funding.
3. Intended grant competition must require matching funds.
4. Applicant and PI must be AARN members. Become a member here.

Funding Limitations
AARN matching funds cannot be used to support granting agency overhead.

Deadlines
Applications for AARN Fund Matching Awards will remain open through June 30, 2026. Applications for matching funds must be received at least 6 weeks before grant deadline.

Review Process
Applications will be reviewed by AARN Steering Committee. Successful applicants will be notified and letters of support provided in a timely fashion prior to grant deadlines.
